Using Social Media As A Branding Strategy

As of June 2011, there are over 600 million registered users on Facebook, and using this social media site as part of your branding strategy is just smart business.  In order to reach your target market among the millions of Facebook users, the first thing you have to do is open an account for your business.

If you already have a personal account, don’t create another account for your business.  Instead create a new page from your personal account.   This way, your business and personal accounts are separate yet still neatly housed in one account.

Since there is no limit to the number of pages you can create, you can have one page for each service your business provides.   Facebook has provided a marketing tab on the page thus making it easy for you to send updates to everyone who clicked “Like” on your page.  After all, those who liked your pages are your target market.

In creating your page, put some attention on your page name as it cannot be changed once it is created.   Better yet, do market research to see which names will fit your Internet-branding strategy.   Since the purpose is to increase brand awareness, make your page name as specific as possible to represent your business. For instance, a page name like Jessica’s Custom Boat Building is always better than the generic page title like “boat.”

After you create your page, you can easily publicize it on other social media sites.  Make your marketing campaign as interesting as possible by using video clips, audio files and photographs.  If you have a blog, set it up on your new page.  All of these will help you in your Google rankings.
