Diversity Management Start With The Hiring Process

Diversity is the uniqueness of individuals encompassing different personal qualities, principles and organizational roles.  It is also the combinations of similarities and differences in every level of an organization.  This includes skills, culture, race, age, physical attributes, sexual orientation, religion, educational achievement, marital status, etc.

The practice of diversity management has rooted from the mindset and culture of an organization composed of different sets of people brought to the same organization.  Regardless of race, workplace style, etc., diversity management creates an all inclusive work environment free from discrimination and prejudice.

Diversity management requires careful planning, developing and organizing.  Since not everyone has the same values, an organization must then establish a culture that is acceptable to everyone in the organization.  Human Resources practitioners are responsible for creating a work environment where there is an acceptance and appreciation of similarities and differences amongst colleagues.

Therefore, it is the Human Resources’ responsibility to be able to create a positive environment which should start at the recruitment and hiring process.  They should be able to select the right applicants at the onset of employee application to decide on who will be able to handle diversity management in the workplace.

Getting the right people and having them understand diversity management in the first place can empower employees, promote professional and personal development and increase work productivity.
